The cost of Vocaloid will vary depending on what you are looking for. OP, Vocaloid is a standalone product unless you specifically want the Cubase version. However, you can run the Deactivation Tool (download from Yamaha's Vocaloid site) so you can easily move the license to another computer and re-register the software.

You cannot register any Vocaloid 3 product's license key on more than one computer at the same time. It's marketing genius and really lets you know which customer read the fine print and which did not when the complaints start rolling in. It's intended to let you demo your $70+ V3 purchase with frustration and purchase the full V3 Editor (Always buy a Starter Pack which is V3 Editor + Library).

Vocaloid Editor's UI is very different from V2 and V3 and many synthesizer parameter controls have changed since Vocaloid 2 debuted. The Vocaloid 2 Editor isn't even essentially the same as Vocaloid's original editor. Vocaloid 3 Editor (Tiny and full) have a similar UI to Vocaloid 2 Editor, but they are not the same software. Tiny Vocaloid 3 Editor that comes with all Vocaloid 3 libraries is NOT the same as the Vocaloid 2 Editor. Some misinformation that needs to be corrected:
